Pattern Description:

A peninsula in North Devon surrounded by coastline is an area of outstanding natural beauty. Most visitors flock to the coast with long sandybeaches and enticing surf. Not many visitors realisethat tucked away, in the interior, there is a beautifulvalley with a climate of its own. It rains a lot, hencethe lushness of the green grass. My ancestors hada dairy farm here and a country lane is named after
our family. This area is known as The Hidden Valley and these socks are inspired by the Fall colors of leaves that slowly change from the end of Summer, taking the peninsula into a late British Autumn.

These socks have simple leaf print motifs and acorn outlines worked against the variegatedbackground. The socks are knitted from the top
down with a two-color ribbed cuff. The heel is a traditional heel flap and gusset but knitted in atailored pin-stripe with a matching pin-stripe mitten top toe.

30 sts x 40 rnds over 4 inches (10 cm) in Leaf Motif pattern, worked in the round, post-blocking.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Adult Small (Medium, Large)
  • Actual sock circumference: approx 8 (91/2, 111/4) inches (20.5 (24, 28.5) cm). Stretches to fit up to leg circumference approx: 9 (101/2, 12) inches (23 (26.5, 30.5) cm).
  • NB: These socks will only stretch as far as the stranding allows, so if you are a very tight colorwork knitter you may want to go up a needle size or two, or take special care to strand loosely. Foot length is adjustable but sock shown here is 9 1/2 inches (24 cm) long for US 7 shoe size (Euro 39 shoe size)
