Pattern Description:

Each project can be knit up in a few days. Both hat and mitts feature a band of corrugated ribbing within the main colour ribbing that looks with its two colours just like a woven in ribbon. The heart colourwork spreads all over the mitts and hat, covering everything with love!

Herzchen is the German diminutive for heart which is also used for very lovely persons. These fingerless mittens and hat set shows that the wearer is such a lovely person. Their cute heart shaped colourwork stands for love and friendship.


24 sts x 36 rounds = 10 x 10cm/4 x 4 in heart pattern.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Sizes: Fingerless Mitts: S (M, L) to fit hand/underarm circumferences of 17 (21, 25)cm/6.75 (8.25, 10); Hat: S (M,L) to fit head circumferences of 51 (56, 61)cm/20 (22, 24).


  • Needles: a set of 2.5mm (US Size 1.5) DPNs or circular needle depending on your favorite method of working in the round.
  • Yarn: Fingering weight yarn. Hat and Mitts shown in size M in Karen Noe Design Shetland Wool (100% wool, 220m/241yds per 50g skein) in Aquamarine (MC) and Iris (CC). Mitts shown in size S in Mondial Extrafine Superwash (100% merino, 175m/191yds per 50g ball) in grey (MC) and la droguerie surnaturelle (100% wool, 175m/191yds per 50g skein) in caudron (CC).
  • Yardage: Mitts approx. 110 (138, 165)m/100 (126, 151) yds MC; 40 (50, 60)m/37 (46, 55) yds CC. Hat approx. 87 (95, 104)m/80 (87, 95)yds MC; 50 (55, 60)m/46 (50, 55) yds CC.

  • Notions: 1 stitch holder, stitch markers, tapestry needle to weave in ends.
