Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit and purl
  • increase and decrease
  • cables
  • (optional) chain and single crochet, for buttoned variation

Pattern Description:

Wrap up your ears to keep them toasty when temperatures drop outside, without messing up your hair. It's also great if you don't like the look of hats on your head, or like to use a headband to keep your hair back but want warmth at the same time. The cable pattern is easy to memorize, and there are only 26 stitches max in each row, making this a very portable project.


5 sts and 5 rows = 1" in Stockinette stitch.


  • US 8/5.0mm straight needles
  • cable needle or double-pointed needle
  • yarn needle
  • (optional) Size H/8 5.0mm crochet hook, for buttoned variation
  • (optional) sewing needle

You Will Also Need:

  • (optional) 1/2" button in coordinating color, for buttoned variation
  • (optional) sewing thread to match yarn color, for buttoned variation

Suggested yarn:

200 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:
