Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit and purl, knit and purl in the stitch below (instructions are included.)

Pattern Description:

There are so many beautiful sock yarns out there. This scarf lets you use up lots of left overs, even in very small amounts. The knit below technique, which is explained in the pattern, is a great way to combine different colors to create a beautiful effect. To increase the variety in your scarf, trade small amounts of sock yarn with your friends. No two scarves will look alike.

You can wear this to dress up or down. Your scarf will get noticed !


18 stitches/ 4 inches, and 20 rows/ 4 inches in pattern. Note that the knit below pattern will alter the row gauge because stitches are elongated.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 6.5 inches by 79 inches (after blocking)


  • A large assortment of small amounts of sock yarn. Total weight used was 115 grams, which is approximately 535 yards of fingering weight yarn. Use size 3 (3.25 mm) needles.
