Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knitting in the round
  • ability to read color-work chart
  • ability to knit with two colors at a time

Pattern Description:

I lead a weekend workshop focusing on cashmere: how to knit with it, how to embellish it and how to get all the bang for your buck out of it! It was a wonderful group of ladies who want to come back and do it again next year.

As a thank you to them, I designed this tam, using the gorgeous colors of SpringGate Farm's cashmere (Jane hosted our workshop). This tam gets lots of rave reviews when I wear it!

You could certainly do this tam in wool if your budget precludes cashmere ... but you'll lose the halo-like glow, the buttery softness, and the amazing warmth of cashmere.

Gauge:

7sts x 9 rnds = 1" stockinette (done in the round) in colorwork

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • fit an average adult head: rib circumference = 14" (relaxed rib); tam circumference at outer edge of crown= 33"; radius of tam = 5-1/4" (center to edge)

  • MC: heavy fingering weight cashmere or wool -- approx 165 yds
