Pattern Description:

With an easy to memorize lace pattern (repeat of 8sts x 8rows), this shawl is a great first knitted-lace project. Worked top down, the "birds" increase as the shawl grows, ending with a garter-stitch band.

This one can be worn multiple ways - all flattering! Using approx 380 yards of fingering weight wool (sample used Poems Sock in "Cruise"), this shawl is a fun knit ... and done in sock yarn to take full-advantage of the self-striping yarns on the market.

Directions are charted and written out.

Further notes:
this shawl starts with a "garter tab" than blooms into three stitch panels with 2SS between increase points
increases for the shawl are YO's
the shawl finishes with garter rows - to keep the shawl edge flat and to complement the garter edges
slip the first st of every row to create a clean, chain edge; slip as if to purl

14sts x 24 rows = 4 inches, stockinette, blocked
