Pattern Description:

Flexor

Afterthought heel socks are a perfect introduction to sock knitting. They are also the perfect project to showcase colours and use scraps for your heels and toes. These socks have been knitted using a neutral base colour as a main colour and scraps from the other socks in this series. You can make a matching pair, or a mix and match set the possibilities are endless. This design can be knitted from the top down and from the toe up.

Sizing

These socks come in four sizes 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years and 2-3 years.

The leg and foot length is easily customised to fit the recipient's foot.

Materials needed

Main colour: approx. 20 - 30g / 0.7 - 1 oz (65 - 98m / 71 - 107 yds)
Contrast colour: approx. 10 -20g / 0.35 - 0.7 oz (33 - 65m / 36 - 71 yds)

Colourspun Pure Merino Sock
(50 g / 1.75 oz, 163 m / 178 yds, 100% superwash Merino)

2.5mm / US1.5 needle for working in the round

Two stitch markers. I find the lockable stitch markers work best. Ideally you want two different colours or styles.

Tapestry needle, for weaving in ends

Waste yarn for heel (a smooth 4ply cotton works very well)

Gauge:

32st x 44 rows = 4" / 10cm in stocking stitch worked in the round

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 0-6 months, 6-12 months, 1-2 years and 2-3 years

  • 2.5mm / US1.5 needles
  • Two stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Smooth cotton / waste yarn

Suggested yarn:

120 yards of Fingering weight
