Pattern Description:

Inspired by the textiles of the Italian Renaissance, the Firenze Cowl is a reversible, double-layer cowl in stranded colourwork. It uses an an original colourwork chart representing seaweed and waves, and a variation on a traditional colourwork pattern for the vines. The Firenze cowl is worked in the round from a provisional cast on, which is grafted to the end stitches in finishing. A matching mitten pattern is also available; both patterns can be made with 1x50g and 1x20g of each colour of the recommended yarn.


27.5 stitches and 32 rows = 4 inches in stranded colourwork


  • Needles: US4/3.5mm 24"/60cm circular needle or size to obtain gauge
  • scrap yarn for provisional cast on
  • yarn/tapestry needle for weaving in ends and grafting
  • 1 stitch marker

Suggested yarn:

380 yards of Fingering weight
