Fiona's Fingerless Mitts

from By Hand, With Heart
(6) Name: 'Knitting : Fiona's Fingerless Mitts

Fiona's Fingerless Mitts
Fiona's Fingerless Mitts

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • understanding of cable/twisted stitches
  • understanding of knitting in the round

Pattern Description:

Knit in the round, top down, these one-size-fits-most fingerless mitts are cozy, practical and fun to knit. A twisted-stitch pattern on the back keeps the knitting interesting, while the 2x2rib pattern on the palm-side makes for cushy warmth!

These are my go-to mitts for working on the computer in the early morning/ late night coolness ... or for running around town with the kids.

These mitts used all of two skeins of Nashua Handknits "Snowbird" in a light-green tweed (think pistachio), but any worsted weight, lofty wool/alpaca blend (about 150 yards) will work beautifully for these extra-long (5-inches below the wrist) beauties.

Directions are charted and round-by-round.

16 x 24 sts = 4" stockinette in the round (kept lofty, not blocked)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • length - 10 inches (approx 5" from wrist); to fit a hand 8" in diameter (the mitts are forgiving of larger/smaller hands due to the fabric characteristics)

  • approx 150 yards of wool/alpaca blend worsted-weight (sample used all of 2 sks of Nashua Handknits Snowbird)
  • US#8 dpns
  • stitch markers -- 3 -- 1 for beg of rnd, 2 for thumb opening
  • tapestry needle to tuck in ends

Suggested yarn:

150 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Nashua Handknits Snowbird
