Basic Skills Necessary:

  • provisional cast-on
  • three-needle bind-off
  • knit
  • purl
  • kfb
  • k2tog

Pattern Description:

Erika Cowl is knitted flat using a provisional cast on. The seaming is done by the three needle bind off. Both techniques are explained and demonstrated by a photo tutorial beginning on page 4. The Erika Cowl is worn wrapped around the neck. It features sections of stockinette stitch and horizontal ribs. The finished cowl has a circumference of approximately 48" (122 cm), so that it does not fit too loosely around your neck and keeps you warm.


22 stitches x 28 rows for a 4x4" (10x10cm) swatch in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 8.25" (21 cm) wide, circumference: 48" (122 cm)


  • US8 (5 mm) circular needle 16" length, another needle of same size and a third needle of a bigger size

You Will Also Need:

  • tapestry needle for weaving in ends
