Basic Skills Necessary:

  • traveling stitchs
  • knitting in the round
  • inc and dec -- m1, left/right leaning inc, k2tog, ssk, etc

Pattern Description:

the hat starts at the 2x2 ribbing, in the round
the leaves "bloom" from the ribbing, creating 11 leaves around the crown
strategically-placed decreases cause the leaves to merge so that their tips meet in the center

Directions are both charted and round-by-round


16 sts x 24 rnds = 4" stockinette worked in the round on larger needles

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • sized to fit Adult med-lg head: unstretched ribbing = 16" crown = 9" diameter


  • approx 180 yards worsted-weight wool or wool-blend (sample used almost a whole skein of Cascade's Rustic in a lovely red-wine color)
  • 11 stitch markers -- one a different color to denote beg of rnd
  • cable needle for traveling st
  • tapestry needle to tuck in ends
  • US #5 circs - 16"
  • US #8 circs -- 24"
  • US #8 dpns

Suggested yarn:

180 yards of Worsted weight
