Kate Oates is the designer for Tot Toppers & When I Grow Up. She enjoys designing hats and garments for babies and children in particular, these projects often reflect a whimsical spirit. Kate's When I Grow Up line is for those of us who are not tots, featuring a modern classic style. Kate also strives to add specifically to the growing body of knits for boys as she has three of her own! You can find her patterns at your local yarn store or online. She also does freelance work for a variety of publications.
In her non-knitting life, Kate has just finished up a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida. She lives with her family in South Carolina, which includes husband Ryan, Jesse, Charlie & Oliver (3 very handsome Tot Topper's models) and beloved dogs Cooper and Lou. You might also see the Oates' clan at a Clemson football game. Go Tigers!
This is the first design in the "When I Grow Up" line by Tot Toppers. Same style, but for those that aren't tots.
A delicate leaf & lace brim sets off this hat for infants through adults. Brim for this hat is knit first in a strip, and then seamed. Stitches for hat body are picked up along brim edge and hat is worked from the bottom up. Directions included for two body options, one with a textured dot (featured) and another with crossover twists that lead into crown decreases. Sizing implies stretching for a snug fit, size up if you prefer a looser fitting cap.
19 stitches and 25 rows per 4 inches in stockinette; Rows 1-12 of Brim Pattern measure 2 inches in length.
