Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knitting in the round, cabling, reading charts, picking up stitches

Pattern Description:

My husband Dave patiently watched me make multiple pairs of house socks for other people...until he plaintively mentioned he'd like a pair, too!

Because he loves Celtic cables, I picked a four strand braid for the main cable pattern, and created closed cables for the gussets.

Directions are given separately for the HEAVY WORSTED/ARAN (HW) & LIGHT WORSTED/ WORSTED (LW) versions.

Work the LEFT SOCK CHART for the left sock, & RIGHT SOCK CHART for the right sock. Both GUSSET CHARTS are used in each sock.

Directions for HEAVY WORSTED/ARAN (HW) begin on page 4.
CHARTS are located on pages 5 & 6.

For the foot, if you need to end earlier than 11/2in / 4cm (HW) (or) 13/4in / 4.5cm (LW) based on your round gauge in order to end on ROUND 11, do so; knit extra rounds even for the toe.

20 sts & 36 rounds = 4in / 10cm in St st with larger needles

Cable repeat 23/4in / 7cm wide by 11/2in / 4cm tall with larger needles

28 sts & 36 rounds = 4in / 10cm in St st in St st with larger needles

Cable repeat 21/4in / 5.5cm wide by 11/4in / 3cm tall with larger needles
