Pattern Description:

I knit newborn hats for a hospital nursery and decided to attempt a new cast on called a German Twisted Knit Cast-On. I wanted a hat with a lot of stretch to it and easy enough for a beginning knitter with a little experience. The cast on I used is optional, but W-O-W do I ever love it! The rest of the hat is a piece of cake, It's basically all ribbed stitches, braided ties, an I-cord flower for a girl hat and a pom-pom for a boy hat. It literally knits up in less than two hours!

3.25 and 5 rounds = 1 inch

  • Length 5.5 inches, base circumference 12 inches, body of hat 18 inches
