Pattern Description:

Directions are given for two lengths of a fun, cozy, chill-cheating cowl - one that rests right up near the neck (18 inches) and one that is long enough to wear as a hood (48 inches).

The samples are worked in a wonderful cotton/acrylic blend (perfect for those with wool allergies) but would work equally well in a worsted-weight wool. Four colors are needed for this design which is knit in the round.

The longer cowl has directions for knitting a contrast lining to cover the stranded-colorwork and add another layer for greater warmth.

Gauge:

16sts x 22rnds = 4" stockinette knitted in the round

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • smaller = 18" x 8"; larger = 48" x 7-1/4"

Materials:

  • approx 145 to 430 yards of worsted weight yarn (sample done in Kraemer's Tatamy Tweed in 4 colors .... see notes)
  • US #8 circs (16- and 40-inch circs)
  • stitch marker (1 to mark beg of rnd)
