Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit
  • Purl
  • Work in-the-round
  • Single and double decreases
  • Increases

Pattern Description:

Doing stranded colorwork makes me happy, and this hat was just another foray into that wonderful world.

Beginning with a slipped stitch edging, the hat progresses to the fair-isle brim where a welt is worked at the top. The crown is then worked with both single and double decreases to the end. A speedy, satisfying and beautiful knit.


20 sts and 20 rows = 4"
in stranded colorwork

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Fits head sizes 211/2"- 22" comfortably. Go up or down one needle size for larger or smaller size.


  • Size 8 - 16" circular needle
  • Size 8 - 24" circular needle for magic loop or size 8 double pointed needles
  • Size 6 - 16" circular needle
  • 1 - 100g ball solid worsted weight yarn
  • 1 - 50g ball self-striping yarn with long color runs, such as Noro Silk Garden
