Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit and purl

Pattern Description:

Absolute luxury, superbly soft, and very easy to make. Knit (or crochet and knit) this hat and reversible (no wrong side) scarf with a subtle square-in-a-square motif around the hat and down the center of the scarf. The hat has an approximate circumference of 22" (56cm) and will stretch to fit. The scarf is 18x54" (46x137cm), or make it any length you wish.

Minimal sewing, just hemming the hat.

Knitting: 11 sts and 10 Stocking st rows = 2" (5cm).
Crochet: 13 single crochet sts and 12 rows = 2" (5cm).

  • Fingering or sock cashmere or alpaca, 300 yds (275m) for the hat, 900 yds (820m) for the scarf

  • Size F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook (if required)

1200 yards of Fingering weight

Val Love on

I can't remember when I couldn't knit, crochet or sew. I am inspired by yarn I find, trends I see on the street, window shopping in Manhattan and suggestions from fellow knitters and crocheters. My goal is to create stylish patterns that are easy to wear, and to find the simplest way to construct them.
