Candle Lace Scarf

from Nancy Hand
(6) Name: 'Knitting : Candle Lace Scarf
Candle Lace Scarf
Candle Lace Scarf

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • This is a simple lace pattern using different methods of increasing and decreasing the stitch count across a row.

Pattern Description:

This is a re-creation of a stitch pattern from an afghan I made in 1970. I lost the original pattern but really liked the design and wanted to use it again.

The scarf uses a single repeat of the pattern, plus a few edge stitches. 360 yards of DK should produce a scarf about 60" (152cm) long.

The pattern includes basic directions for the scarf plus written directions for the stitch pattern as well as a chart.

The original afghan used 8 repeats, a slightly wider edge, and (if I remember correctly) called for 60 ounces of worsted weight wool.

8 sts to the inch (2.54 cm) in pattern on US 7 (4.5mm) needles

  • 183 yds (167 m) of DK weight yarn will produce a scarf about 7" wide and 30" long (17.75 x 76 cm) using US 7 (4.5mm) needles

Suggested yarn:

366 yards of DK weight
