Basic Skills Necessary:

  • do stranded knitting with at most two colors in one round

Pattern Description:

Beautiful butterflies in orange are all around this beanie.
The filigrane black wing pattern is especially lovely.

Plain orange butterfly silhouettes complete the beanie as peerie pattern.

It will fit small and medium sized heads (up to 54 cm head circumreference). For bigger heads use bigger needle size.

At the crown are small black and orange butterflies. When you take a look at it from further away the crown resembles a flower.

Enjoy and happy knitting.


Knitting gauge: 1 x 1 inch: 8 stitches and 9 rows in stranded knitting.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • This beanie fits size S and M. (up to 54 cm head circumreference). For bigger sizes go up one or two needle sizes and/or use 5-ply yarn or both.


  • about 40 g of black 4-ply sock yarn, 40 g of orange 4-ply sock yarn, 35 g of off-white 4-ply sock yarn.
  • Circular needle 40 cm 3.00 mm and 5 double pointed needles size 3.00 mm for the top of the head. Note: For bigger heads use needle size 3.25 or 3.5 mm.

You Will Also Need:

  • a tapestry needle to weave in the ends

230 yards of Fingering weight
