  • increasing and decreasing stitches

Pattern Description:

My little granddaughter requested this hat after I made red dog hats for her sister and cousin. It took awhile to come up with a pattern that I felt looked right and girly too. It's warm using double yarn, so it is a great winter hat. It has some good stretch to it (circumference) so it is likely to fit for a couple of winter seasons.

The adult version I just created to be funny, but it too is included in this pattern. I shortened the earflap for the adult version, but you can make earflaps any length you desire for either the child or adult hat.

Gauge:

Using stockinette stitch: 3.25 sts and 5 rows = 1 inch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Circumference - child - 17 inches, adult - 20 inches
  • Height from bottom of earflaps to top of folded over white cap - child - 5 inches, adult - only 4.25 inches (shorter)

Materials:

  • US #10.5 16-inch circular needle
  • US #10.5 double pointed needles
  • US #2 double pointed needles
  • Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" 100% acrylic - 1 skein each of turquoise, white and yellow

You Will Also Need:

  • scrap of black worsted weight yarn
  • felt - black, white and turquoise
  • blunt needle
  • sewing needle and thread in black, white and turquoise
  • flower barrette - optional embellishment

I have had many wonderful comments from knitters who have created items from my patterns and like their finished projects, but should ...
