Blitzen is a traditional Nordic style cap but updated with a modern slouchy shape. It is knitted in Blue Faced Leicester yarns but could be knitted in any Aran or Worsted yarn that knits to gauge. The brim is knitted in a half-twisted rib to give definition, sturdiness and warmth. The two-colour motifs of reindeers, snowflakes and Nordic flowers are knitted fairly tightly using a Fair Isle or stranded technique. The name Blitzen means Lightning and is the name of one of Santa Claus' eight reindeers. The legend of Santa's sleigh pulled by eight reindeer has its roots in Norse mythology where Odin's chariot was pulled across the sky by his eight-legged war horse Sleipnir.
19 sts x 24 rows over 10cm in stocking stitch stranded motifs.
