Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • do stranded knitting with at most two colors in the round
  • knit and purl, knit through backloop

Pattern Description:

This little Bavarian fun knit baby hat has Pretzels and blue and white on it.
You can knit it with 4-ply yarn e.g. 4-ply sock yarn (Merino) - that(tm)s what I did or you can alternatively use 4-ply Acrylic or Merino yarn.
e.g. Buttinette Versailles or Buttinette Madeline.
You won(tm)t get these yarns in your country but you can take a look at the yarn specifications to find something similar.
If you use Merino yarn the hat will get a bit bigger in size. You can then use a smaller needle size to end up with the same hat
size as in Merino yarn these hats tend to turn out a big bigger.

There are also matching Bavarian/Franconian socks available.

Knitting gauge: 2 x 2 cm = 6 stitches and 7 rows / 1 x 1 inch = 7 stitches and 8 rows in stranded knitting.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Fits head circumreference of about 40 (S)" 42 (M) cm.

  • You need 4-ply Acrylic, or soft sock yarn (e.g. Merino) or Merino yarn of similar weight. I used 4-ply Merino sock yarn (230 yards/50 g) and needed about: 17 g in blue 15 g in off-white, 9 g in brown (Pretzels)
  • A set of double pointed needles size 3.00 mm (5 needles).
  • A tapestry needle to weave in the yarn tails.

You Will Also Need:

  • Knitting fun :)

Suggested yarn:

230 yards of Fingering weight

blue, white(or off-white) and brown (Pretzels)
