Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Knit, purl, M1L, M1R, k2tog, SSK, wrapping sts, knitting sts with wraps, picking up stitches, two color stranded knitting, and working in a round.

Pattern Description:

Knit this cozy ear flap hat for the little one in your life! It has doubled ear flaps for added warmth and the pattern includes two colorwork designs for extra options.

Construction: This hat is knit top-down, entirely in one piece. Begin with the Hat Crown and then work the Colorwork Band, Outer Earflaps, Hem, and Inner Earflaps. Whipstitch the hem, weave in the ends, and block.

Pattern is 4 pages long and and includes easy to follow instructions and helpful photographs.


24 sts & 28 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size: 0-3 mo (3-6 mo, 6-9 mo, 1-2 yrs, 3-4 yrs) to fit head circumference of approximately 14.75" (16.25", 17.5", 18.75", 19.75")
  • Finished Hat Circumference: approximately 13.25" (14.5", 16", 17.25", 18.5")


  • Worsted weight wool:
  • Snowflake Hat: MC (white): 60 (70, 75, 90, 105) yards AND CC (red): 35 (40, 50, 50, 55) yards
  • Chevron Hat: MC (white): 70 (85, 90, 110, 125) yards AND CC (gray): 25 (30, 30, 35, 35) yards
  • Needles: US 7 DPNs (4)

  • Tapestry needle, stitch markers (8), safety pin (optional)
