Knit this very special chunky open lace beanie hat with a pretty knitted flower.
A beautiful newborn gift for you to make.
This pattern has instructions for sizes newborn to 2 years.
The beautiful little baby in the pale pink hat was very tiny at only 5 1/2 lbs so my newborn hat was a little big for her.... very cute though!
The beautiful little baby in the red hat was 7 weeks and wearing my 2-9 months hat.
This hat can be knitted with two strands of double knit (US sportsweight) to give a chunky look. I have chosen DK yarn as it is available in a vast selection of colours in the UK. This pattern can be handknitted with any Double Knit yarn. You can choose cotton, or wool or mixed fibre blends. .
Alternatively you can choose any yarn that recommends 5 1/2mm (US 9) needles.
The hat in my photo is knitted with two strands of 100% cotton DK
on a pair of 5 1/2mm (US 9) straight needles.
This pattern is ideal for an intermediate knitter who is confident, and knows how to cast on, knit, purl, slip st, psso, wyrn, and cast off.

My lovely mother also taught me to knit. She had so much patience as I dropped my stitches more often than I knitted them for quite a while!

I left school and studied at art school for 6 years. I spent my first two years experimenting with many arts and crafts. I finally chose textiles and spent a further 4 years studying knitwear design. I so loved my time at art school and I have had a wonderful career as a knitwear designer for the last 20 years. Once you've got the bug it stays with you for life!.
