Pattern Description:

The inspiration for this hat design came after a visit from a dear older friend.
My friend was wearing quite an amazing hat, the likes of which I had not seen before. It was purchased many years ago on the French Iles De la Madeleine, this style hat was often worn by island fisherman.

The original hat would have been hand knit in traditional colors of un-dyed wool and raw fleece. The raw fleece gives the hat extra warmth often needed when at sea in the colder Northern climates. I gave the hat a modern twist while still maintaining much of the structure. It was a lot of fun to knit and I hope you enjoy it!
