Basic Skills Necessary:

  • cast on
  • knit
  • purl
  • knit through the back loop
  • yarn over
  • knit 2 together
  • knit in the round
  • bind off

Pattern Description:

This cowl is the beginner version of the Romney Ridge Cowl. It uses one color instead of two and uses a cast-on edge and finishes with a bound-off edge rather than the provisional cast on and kitchener grafting that are used in the Romney Ridge Cowl pattern.

The open stitches utilize basic lacework stitches, making this a perfect first lace project for beginners.

This is a quick one-skein wonder, and depending on your yardage, you may even get 2 cowls from one skein.

4 stitches per inch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approximately 24" in circumference and 8" deep (depth is easily modified but may require a different amount of yarn to complete the project)

  • ~150 yards worsted weight yarn
  • US size 8 (or size needed for gauge) knitting needles suitable to knit in the round at a circumference of ~24 inches.

You Will Also Need:

  • stitch marker
  • locking stitch marker (optional)

Suggested yarn:

150 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Romney Ridge Farm Blend
