Basic Skills Necessary:

  • cast on, decrease, pick up stitches, short rows

Pattern Description:

Aranami (jap).- (n) stormy seas, raging waves

Color and patterning of this shawl reminded me of a winter ocean with foamy raging waves on the surface. Poor weather and dark skies reflecting in the ocean add to the color and obscure grey lines of the horizon merging with the sky. Worked in modular technique, this shawl is a great travel project as elements are worked one at a time. Pick your colors and see them transition under your fingers.

5 skeins of BT LOFT will yield 2 shawls, only each will be in different color graduation.

Tip on weaving in of the ends: Try weaving ends of the shawl from previous motifs as you go; weave them in 1st row of every new motif, that would help reducing amount of ends by the end.

One motif measures approx 3" tall and 6.7" wide (blocked).
To make a swatch, follow the directions for Tier 1.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Depth 14" Wingspan 67" (blocked)
