Pattern includes both charts and written stitch instructions.
Elegant and easy to wear, A Modern Victorian Shawl is the ideal pattern to gain confidence in knitting lace worked on both right and wrong side rows. Formed over 4 rows, the 20 stitch lace panel takes shape through basic increases and decreases which quickly become intuitive and rhythmic. This easy to memorize pattern will have you skillfully knitting lace with comfort and pride.
Knit in a soft, cotton, DK weight yarn A Modern Victorian Shawl carries you from Spring through Autumn. Perfect on its own for summer evenings it transitions gracefully into cooler weather wardrobes. Linen and silk yarns make good substitutions for maintaining the seasonal versatility and accentuating textures with defined structure. Alternate a wool DK or worsted yarn to create a cosy wrap for the winter months, or try a Blue Faced Leicester fingering for warmth with a soft drape.
With a side-to-side construction the edging, lace panel, and garter body are knit over each row. Working the sections together makes the shawl engaging to knit and the shaping avoids tediously long rows.
From casual to formal, work to leisure, A Modern Victorian Shawl is a versatile wrap for comfort and elegance throughout the seasons.
Please note: Sample was knit with 482 yd (440 m) of Berroco Pure Pima (100% cotton) which is now discontinued. After much research I have found Blue Sky Alpacas Skinny Dyed Cotton, while lighter, is a very close match for the texture.
21 stitches & 30 rows over 4 inches (10 cm) in stockinette stitch after blocking.
482 yards of DK weight
