"Let It Snow!" Thrummed Earflap Hat Pattern

Pattern Description:
Who cares if it's winter and snowing? You or your lucky project recipient will be cozy toasty warm in my "Let It Snow! Thrummed Earflap Hat."
The earflaps are knitted with the easy and fun thrumming technique to incorporate a soft, insulating layer of fleece while adding a design element that evokes the look of falling snow. If you've never tried thrumming before, I encourage you to give it a try. I've included a thrumming tutorial in the pattern, with color photographs showing how I thrummed the earflaps. It's ridiculously easy! I promise!
The earflaps are knitted flat, stitches are added and the hat is joined and completed in the round. So if you can knit in the round with circular and double pointed needles, you'll find this an easy and quick knit. Yes, even with the thrumming! Easy Peasy!!

Gauge:
In stockinette stitch, 4.5 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch/2.5 cm
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- Small (4 year old child to small adult)/Medium (medium to large adult)
Materials:
- Worsted weight (4-ply) yarn (3.5 oz/100g), 210 yds/192 m v
- Bulky weight (12 ply) 100% wool roving, 3.5 oz/100g, 120 yds/109 m
- 2 Double pointed needles, US5/UK9/3.75 mm
- Size 9 (UK5/5.5mm) 16" (41 cm) circular needle and double pointed needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge
- Stitch markers
- Stitch holder or extra needle
- Crochet hook, size G
You Will Also Need:
- Optional needle felting tool and mat for making "snowballs" at ends of ties
