(5) Name: 'Jewelry : Wheelie

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • even-count tubular peyote stitch
  • seed beading

Pattern Description:

Here's a beaded bead slider that's fabulous singly, in pairs or by the dozen!

Work some seed beadweaving, add some faceted beads and drop beads, reinforce and you're done! This is a lovely little piece for colour studies, as the use of contrasting versus coordinating colours really emphasizes different aspects of the Wheelie.

As well as making a fun slider for a necklace (it fits well on a tubular herringbone rope using four size 11 seeds per round), dangle these from large hoop earrings for some drama.

You should be comfortable with even-count tubular peyote stitch.

Notes about supplies:

- I used a size 10 beading needle, but had to cull seed beads ruthlessly; I recommend a size 12).

- For thread, I used Nymo B, doubled which is my default, but feel free to use your favourite.

- The size 11 beads that you choose MUST have bead holes large enough to accommodate four thread passes; for this reason I do NOT recommend any of the Permanent Finish galvanized or gilt-lined beads as their holes are very small. Many of the inside colour-lined or silver-lined beads have smaller holes as well.

Choose your needle and thread accordingly.

This is a fairly quick intermediate-level project, but if you're a beginner who has even-count tubular peyote nailed, you should have no problems with this pattern.
