Basic Skills Necessary:

  • peyote stitch
  • herringbone stitch

Pattern Description:

Make this necklace as lush as you like, with oodles of leaves in a coordinated palette. The herringbone chain divides and rejoins to provide an extra "branch" for even more leaves, and terminates in a beaded closure that can also be decorated with, yes, more leaves.

You should be comfortable with flat peyote and tubular herringbone. The leaves require flat peyote with increasing and decreasing, and the rope and toggle are tubular herringbone.

You will receive fully illustrated instructions (photographed step by step) for the basic leaves, as well as a few variations. The instructions also cover in detail the necklace toggle and the front section (which divides and then rejoins.

I have used Japanese size 11 seed beads for all the versions of this that I've made, but I'm sure it would be gorgeous and delicate using size 15 seed beads, as well as Czech seeds, which are slightly smaller. You might even want to mix up a few sizes for even more texture.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Necklace is made to desired length

  • Size 11 seed beads for 25-30 leaves, small amounts for each leaf
  • Size 11 seed beads for necklace, about 10-15g, depending on length
  • Beading needle
  • Beading thread

You Will Also Need:

  • scissors
  • beading surface
  • thread conditioner (optional)
  • good lighting
