Basic Skills Necessary:

  • right angle weave
  • tubular herringbone
  • tubular peyote

Pattern Description:

After a stressful day, this is a soothing and rhythmic project to calm you.

This rope necklace or bracelet (amounts given for a 16-17" necklace) has thread paths similar to right angle weave and to tubular herringbone, with a spot of tubular peyote thrown in for good measure, but it's quick to learn, and once you start, not too difficult to read your beadwork and memorize the pattern.

I like picking seed beads that contrast if not in colour, then at least in value with the twin beads, but that's just my preference. I'd also recommend (if using multiple colours of seed beads) switching up the finishes: choose a metallic, a matte, a transparent iridescent.

Or use up your scraps and spills, as each repeat uses only 36 seed beads!

This is not a pattern for a first-time beader, but someone with tubular herringbone (at a minimum) under their belt and good beading intuition should be fine - and it turns out that more experienced beaders enjoy it too!

Wear this necklace alone, or add a pendant or slider bead. Make one bracelet or four in toning shades - you'll find this a versatile addition to your pattern repertoire!
