- This is an intermediate wire wrapping project. You should be at least familiar with basic wire skills such as cleaning and straightening and making a basic binding wrap.
Pattern Description:
The bracelet in this tutorial is my personal favorite. It was inspired partly by my birds, my Rainbow Lories ~ Murphy, Gabby, Pluck & Feather, in particular. Everyone that I've taught this to, and who has made one, interprets the colors in their own way ~ as it should be.
Materials:
- Materials to create a basic 7 -7 1/2" bracelet: I prefer GF wire, but you're welcome to use sterling or even copper - 1/2 hard or dead soft. Q=the best to use? A=Use what you have. 48" 20g square wire 9" 22g wire (square or round) 32" 16-20g 1/2 round wire (I prefer the heavier gauges in 1/2 round wire, and 1/2 hard for this project - it forms crisper wraps) Minimum 12 6mm cube crystals Optional : 2, 4mm Bali spacers per crystal, if you don't use spacers, you will need to increase the number of crystals needed, by 2 or 3; 1 extra cube as a 'little helper'.
- wire cutters, ruler, flat-nose pliers, round nose pliers, large round dowel or something similar for forming - optional: tape, Sharpie marker, cleaning cloth.

I keep a sketch book with me all the time, and drive friends nuts - Very often I'll be in the middle of a sentence, when an idea pops in my head, and I immediately scramble for my book to jot it down, or start picking up materials to work it out before the idea falls out of my head. I have even pulled out of traffic, cutting off a police officer in the process to write down my thoughts. I was so intent on my thoughts, I didn't realize I was holding up a "wait a minute finger" to that same police officer. When I finally looked up, explained what I was doing, and showed him my book, he could only shake his head, and warn me drive more carefully.
I have been creating wire wrapped jewelry for almost 25 years, and have been teaching wire wrapping professionally for more than 10 years. New designs I test on myself (and willing guinea pigs, err umm friends) for wearablity and durability. On average, I make tutorial designs roughly 15 to 30 times (honestly - not an exaggeration!) before I write a tutorial to make sure it is easily repeatable, and not just a happy fluke. Bet I could give Zales a run for it's money on ring stock alone :))
Sometimes I miss the normal perks that come with a 'regular job' - you know - vacations, sick days, dental - but only sometimes. When I start to miss them, I just remind myself of the really great perks I do have - like making my own hours, playing with pretty shiny things all day, and working in my jammies if I want too :D
