Pattern Description:

Classic Soutache braid is a favorite among seamstresses for adding a touch of elegance to accessories. Now, we can easily adapt this beautiful weave into wire jewelry! You'll actually create your own basic, surprisingly simple tool to make this weave , well, SURPRISINGLY easy to make - no more jigs for us! PLUS a special BONUS section on how to add wire virtually invisibly!!!

For those of you who own my Celtic Braid and Cretan Braid tutorials - this weave is the same - but this is a MUCH easier, versatile, and inexpensive way to accomplish it!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Materials will make a bracelet up to 9 in.

Materials:

FOR COILED BRACELET:
7.5 ft. (230cm) 24g, dead soft copper wire, 47 ft. (14meters 33cm) 28g dead soft copper wire (enough to make two 33 in. (84 cm) coils), OR 52.25ft (16meters) 30g dead soft copper wire
18in. (36cm) 20g craft or scrap wire
FOR CLASP:
6in. (16 cm) 16g dead soft or half hard copper wire
3in. (8 cm) 18g or 16g dead soft or half hard copper wire
*OR* 2 (two) 7 or 8mm soldered jump rings and 3 (three) 4mm unsoldered jump rings or split rings
*OPTIONAL:* 14 in. to 18 in. .013 steel wire (I use a used guitar string)
TOOLS: Chain nose pliers
Round nose pliers
2 double pointed aluminum knitting needles in Size 2 (US) or 2.75mm
Nylon jawed pliers
an awl or fat pointed sewing needle in a pin vise (my personal favorite tool!)
Flush cutters
pencil or pen marker (will also be used as a mandrel)
Ruler with metric markings
*OPTIONAL: * Electric drill, .022 or .024 unwound steel guitar string or music wire , Rawhide or nylon hammer, bench block, file, sandpaper or rotary tool
