Pattern Description:

Santa Star temari is more than just a simple pattern. Eleven pages of tips, diagrams and techniques on how to stitch this adorable Christmas ornament from start to finish. The pattern is written for the absolute beginner. If you have never made a temari ball, this pattern outlines the best way to make a bell box for inside the ball, wrap the ball, use a paper template pattern to stitch the red star, and complete the embroidery stitches for Santa's features and outfit. The pattern ends with how to make a simple hanger or a twisted cord hanger. Note: this temari ball is NOT divided and marked with guidelines, making it easier than most. 11 pages.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 3" diameter ball


  • old sock or stocking, 1 soda bottle cap, cardstock, jingle bells or beads for the inside of the bell box, scotch tape, stuffing for the ball (thread, yarn or batting bits, rice hulls or dryer lint), soft baby yarn, black serger or sewing thread , #5 pearl cotton thread - 1 skein each of white, black and red, about 12" metallic thread, 6-stranded cotton floss, skin colored, small pompom for top of his hat

  • scissors for cutting thread #18 darner needle, 2 pins with colored tops for his eyes and 5 pins to be used as guides stitch the star
