This is a scan (not an original paper copy) of an antique 1877 booklet Collection of Traditional Russian Cross Stitch embroidery Patterns.
The designs are illustrated over graph paper, which serves both as a visual example of the design as well as the chart.
This booklet contains approximately 100 designs on 12 pages (plus cover) with an average of 8 separate designs of red embroidery on each page.
The designs are unlike anything you had ever seen. The images are absolutely gorgeous and include a number of traditional borders as well as birds, animals and scenes from country life.
Pictured in this listing is a cover and one of the pages of this booklet.
These embroidery patterns were widely used on clothing and household items such as bed linens, towels, kitchen textiles throughout Imperial Russia.
The charts can also be used as patterns for a fine mosaic.
