I'm on a mission to teach people to sew, quilt, and embroider. I design patterns especially for beginners and I never release a pattern until I have videos teaching you every skill you'll need to complete the project. Have fun!View all patterns by designer (145) »
This funny little raincloud was inspired by all the kawaii cuteness I saw in Japan - and my daughter's current obsession with rainbows. She has her closet arranged in rainbow order!
You'll get a full-sized pattern (regular and reversed for use with iron-on transfer tools) and a complete color and stitch guide.
This pattern uses just one stitch - running stitch - the easiest one there is. And the pattern has a link to a video teaching you how to do it! You can totally do this!
Expect to spend a couple of evenings on this. The stitching is easy - but there are a lot of them. :-)
As with any embroidery pattern - you get to decide what stitches and colors you want to use. I designed this pattern especially for beginners who are just starting out with the running stitch - but that doesn't mean you have to use the running stitch. Make the drops more drop-like by using a lazy daisy stitch. That would be lovely! Change the smiling face to a grumpy face and have it rain dark grey drops. Fun! Change the streaks of rain to rows of French knots. Fancy! Fill in the cloud with swirls of puffy white. It's totally up to you!
In the third photo I show the same pattern, shrunk down a bit - and used on a card. The cloud is cut from painted paper and the raindrops are stitched through the card.
