Pattern Description:

As a parent, there are many moments when you are proud of your children. For me, one of the best of those moments was standing there watching my son take the oath to defend not only me, but every other citizen of our country, when he joined the U.S. Army. For that, he will always be my #1 Hero!

This pattern was designed based around his actual dog tags that I took a picture of while he was home on leave. The detailing depicts not only the ball chain the tags are worn on, but I've also added his name and branch of the military in backstitching (see photo #3).

This pattern is designed to be stitched on any cross stitch fabric with a plain background. I chose to stitch the model on a 14ct. plastic canvas and used DMC #368 for the fill-in.

The pattern is 94 stitches wide x 69 stitches high

Feel free to personalize your stitched piece by using different fabric colors or even making the letters one solid color versus the graduated shading I used.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • stitched size is 94w x 69h

  • DMC floss, Aida Fabric

You Will Also Need:

  • needle, scissors

I'm an avid stitcher of 35 years, with cross stitch being my main technique of choice.

I enjoy all types of pieces, but really love the ones that have bold, vibrant colors.

All the pictures you see of my patterns are my actual stitched pieces. This way you won't have to guess what your pattern should look like once it's finished. I never like to release a pattern until I've stitched it ...
