Pattern Description:

This crochet pattern includes the Elspeth bear, her bonnet, shirt, ruffled panties, diaper bag, blanket, pillow, and tiny teddy. Her booties are not removable, but the other clothing is. This version of Elspeth is made from size 20 cotton thread, and a size 10 hook. Elspeth is 3-3/4 inches tall, and the tiny teddy is 1-3/4 inches tall.

Elspeth is 5-way jointed, with a disk and cotter-pin jointed head, and thread-jointed arms and legs. The tiny teddy has a stationary head, and thread-jointed limbs. You can make Elspeth in different sizes by using other threads or yarns; just use the same size thread and hook for the bear and her clothes.

Gauge:

Gage is not an issue if you use the same size thread and hook for all pattern pieces; however, when you are making 2 pieces that must be the same size, such as arms and legs, it's best to make both pieces at the same time.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Elspeth is about 3-1/2 inches tall and Tiny Teddy is about 1-1/2 inches

  • Size 20 crochet thread, tan, light rose, white, medium rose One ball of each color will make several bears. , Size 10 (1.3mm) crochet hook, 5-inch doll needle (if thread jointing head), 2.5-inch darner, small blunt tapestry needle, beading needle, sewing needle,Small hemostat, dowel, long tweezers, or other long, narrow tool for stuffing , Small needle-nose pliers for turning cotter pins, small sharp scissors

  • 6 inches of 1/8-inch (or 1/16th if you can get it) wide ribbon, pink, 5 inches of same ribbon for bonnet , Three 3-mm pearl beads to use as buttons ,Two 1/4" heart buttons for diaper bag ,1/4" ribbon rose, pink , Polyester Fiberfill ,Two 3-mm black beads for Elspeth's eyes, two 1-mm black beads for tiny teddy's eyes ,Two 3/8" joint disks (optional) , One 3/4" cotter pin (optional) ,Black embroidery thread , Small piece of thin, stiff plastic or card stock ,
