Pattern Description:

I was inspired by the Scarlet O'Hara lawn party dress she wore at the beginning of Gone With The Wind. It's not an exact duplicate, but it captures the essence of the period. Straight out of an antebellum tableau comes our southern belle. Dress her in the ruffled dress made from cabled cotton (or substitute worsted weight acrylic) accented with "velvet" chenille and thread; pantaloons and shoes made from perle (or substitute #10); picture hat made from size 3 cotton thread with chenille hat band.

With G hook and worsted weight: 4 sts and 5 sc rows or 2 dc rows = 1 inch. With D hook and size 3 thread or chenille 6 sc = 1 inch. 11 sc rnds = 2 inches. With size 7 steel hook & #5 perle cotton or #10 thread 3 pattern sts of (sc, ch 2) = 1 inch. 7 rows pattern st = 1 inch.

  • Sizes D and G crochet hooks and size 7 steel hook or sizes needed for gauge; six #3 snaps; 16 gauge wire; 2 1/2" diameter rubber band or 1/4" elastic cut to size and sewn tog; worsted weight mercerized cotton--600 yds. mint green, 450 yds ecru; #5 perle cotton--90 yds. mint green, 210 yds. ecru; 100 yds green sport weight rayon chenille; 150 yds ecru size 3 thread. You may substitute #10 thread for #5 perle cotton as long as correct gauge is achieved. You may substitute a thinner type acrylic worsted weight (such as Caron's Simply Soft) for the mercerized cotton as long as correct gauge is achieved.

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

I used worsted weight cotton, but you can easily substitute acrylic.
