Pattern Details

Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • It would be best done in Intarsia. Some of the smaller areas might be done in duplicate stitch.

Pattern Description:

The Aztec god Quetzalcoatl was associated with the wind, the planet Venus, arts, crafts, and knowledge. This design is based on an image from the Codex Nuttall.

I used this design to embroider the top of a pillow (about 16x20 inches / 40 x 50 cm). I have charted the design for knitting but it could also be used for an embroidery.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • If done at 6 stitches and 8 rows per inch (2.54 cm), this will produce a blanket about 37 inches across and 30 inches tall (94x76 cm) .

  • 6 colors for the figure plus a background color

You Will Also Need:

  • 23-25 stitch markers, yarn bobbins, darning needle
