Pattern Description:

I am inspired in many ways by the humble shamrock... from the legend of St. Patrick using it as a metaphor for the Trinity, to the shape of the leaves looking like tiny joined hearts...to the lovely green color which promises that spring is at hand! I was wanting to make a lovely spring-time shamrock bracelet, but none of the patterns I found had the lovely leafy veins that I hoped to include, so after a lot of experimenting I finally came up with what I think is a quite lovely little piece!

The bracelet turned out to be quite complex, but this single shamrock is not very difficult. There is a bit of twisting and turning involved in the pattern, but I have written everything out quite thoroughly and have included several pictures to help you see exactly what should be happening where.

I made the pictured sample in size 10 thread and a 1.5 mm steel hook, but any size yarn or thread with an appropriately sized hook can be used. I hope you like my little shamrock pattern!

  • Finished shamrock in size 10 thread with 1.5 mm steel hook measures just over 1 inch tall

Excellent Cara's Shamrock  March 12, 2013

This pattern is very well written and easy to follow. Calls for a 1.5mm hook but I had a 1.65mm hook handy. I also did it in worsted weight yarn with a H85mm hook.

A year or so later, she found a bag that had been her mother's which contained some gorgeous doilies her mother had made, along with some skinny crochet thread and some impossibly small steel crochet ...
