small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • single crochet

  • work in back loops only

Pattern Description:

Every year, I make an afghan using granny squares and ripples (my grandmother's two favorite afghans), and my mom & I sell raffle tickets to raise money for Alzheimer's Research.

This year, I'm designing as I'm stitching, and I'm inviting everyone to join in! I have plans for at least 8 squares - some worked flat, and some in the round - and most will be granny or ripple related.

This week, our square is a mini ripple, made entirely in the back loops only. Because each row is made in single crochet, this particular square is great for using up all those bits and bobs of yarn.

This square is one of the "bonus" squares - there are instructions for both a 7" by 9" warm up america sized block, and a more traditionally sized 12" square block.

Gauge:

22 sts=4" in pattern

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 7" by 9" warm up america block
  • 12" square

  • Red Heart Super Saver
  • size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook

  • yarn needle

Suggested yarn:

100 yards of Worsted weight

So most of my patterns are designed to use up the odd skeins or leftovers in your life, and are geared towards beginner crocheters or those who just want a fast, easy, but still pretty item.
