Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Complete basic crochet stitches: sl st, ch, sc, dc, BPdc (outlined in pattern)
  • Read a crochet pattern in standard US terms

Pattern Description:

With a super nifty stitch pattern that provides stretch and texture, and looks much more challenging than it is--the Irish Sea Blanket is perfect to welcome a new baby or make for yourself in any size you want! It has fabulous texture and works up really quickly. Plus, you can make it up in any colors you wish to suit your style and decor!

The sample blanket was made with worsted weight cotton but this blanket would be equally fabulous in a different fiber or a DK yarn, as well.

The pattern includes:
~stitch abbreviations, special stitches and notes sections
~complete materials list including yarn types, colors and quantities
~a thoroughly tested and clearly written pattern (US terms) including border instructions

Gauge: 14dc X 8 rows in pattern = 4 inches (10cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Sample Blanket: approximately 32 inches (81.5cm) square; pattern includes details to make a blanket of any dimensions you wish


  • Sample blanket used 8 skeins of worsted cotton yarn (approximately 1550 yards)
  • H (5mm) hook

You Will Also Need:

  • Tapestry or yarn needle

Suggested yarn:

1550 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:

Any yarn of choice. Sample used Lion Brand Cotton Ease, Lion Brand Martha Stewart Extra Soft Wool Blend, and I Love This Cotton by Hobby Lobby
