These wall hangings are created using Tapestry Crochet for the background. Tapestry Crochet is similar to regular crochet, except that two or more strands are worked at the same time to create a colourful fabric.
The colours not being used are carried along the top of the previous row. Double (US-single) crochet stitches are worked as you would normally, through both loops of the previous row and over the top of the carried colours.
The flowers use florists wire and wadding to create a 3-D effect and are appliqud to the background.
Materials
DMC Natura Just Cotton - one of each in Blue Paradise (N24), Bleu Layette (N05), Ivory (N02), Tropic Brown (N22), Gauguin (N21) and two in Tournesol (N16).
Florists wire, 30cm square of wadding, 15cm square of brown felt.
Equipment
2.5mm hook, tapestry needle, two hanging rods.
Florists wire is used on the petals and leaves to keep their shape and stop them drooping when hung.
Tension
13 dc x 15 rows to 5 cm square. The back panel is 23 x 61cm (9 x 24 in) with this tension.
