Skill Level:

medium skill level requirement Intermediate

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Advanced beginner/intermediate crochet terms and garment construction knowledge/experience

Pattern Description:

Cowl vest pattern to make this inspiration garment via The Hunger Games, District 12 Katniss Everdeen "Catching Fire".

Gauge is not important, as there are measurements throughout the pattern and four hook sizes are used.

The finished garment from this pattern fits most; S/M/L.
Option suggestion: For larger sizes would be to add a row(s) to the body.

Additional Yarn Options: Along with the super bulky textured yarn, on a couple "made to order" finished garment orders, I have also added Loops & Threads Elegance (lightweight #3, three skeins) and worked with both yarns, over two strands. You would need the same amount of the lightweight yarn as the super bulky (420-450). This option did not affect size of the finished garment.

Featured yarn - Loops & Threads Country Loom, approximately 420 yards (4 skeins)
Suggested yarn - approximately 420 yards Super Bulky. Loops & Threads Country Loom; Red Heart Light & Lofty; Lion Brand Homespun Thick & Quick
Suggested hook size(s) - K-N
Tapestry blunt needle
Dressmaker pins
Stitch marker/scrap yarn
Ruler or measuring tape

Excellent Quick and Fun  January 17, 2014

This is an easy pattern. There is construction which makes it more advanced, but the pictures are clear and helpful. I loved making mine, and would love to make more if I was asked to. You know how there are some patterns you hope people don't ask you to work from? This is not like those. Very enjoyable and fun!

I enjoy all crafts! My grandmother was an avid crafter - we spent many summers crafting together until the wee hours of the mornings - miss her, greatly!
