Pattern Description:

This is my best-selling pattern on Etsy and Ravelry.

The Crochet X-Stitch Shrug is an easy, cute and trendy, one-size-fits-all shrug that goes great with any casual outfit. This shrug would be perfect for fall and looks good over long or short sleeves. Great for chilly offices and folds up nicely into a backpack or carry-on for traveling. Looks good on all body types and sizes!

I have always loved crochet and knitting patterns that look complicated but are secretly easy to construct and lend themselves to be customized to how I want it. The "shrug" construction fits this description because just by altering the size and the stitch pattern I can make shrugs that look very different from each other without too much math!

SMALL PRINT: This pattern may be used to make items for your own personal use, for gifts, or for charitable donations. You may make copies for your own personal use. You may not distribute it in any hard copy or electronic format. You may not sell the finished item only because I sell the finished item on Etsy.

Gauge is not very important! But if you have to know - the gauge of my model shrug is 3.167 dc to 1 in.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • One-Size-Fits-All
  • 38" x 38"

  • Crochet hooks J and I
  • Stitch markers
  • 1100 yds Worsted Weight

Good crochet shrug  December 5, 2012

I was really confused how this was going to come together as I was making it. I was pleasantly surprised with the finished project.

I think I would tweak the pattern ever so slightly for my second go at it. I did make the arm holes slightly bigger then called for to fit better for the person it was intended for.

Next time I will try a softer yarn and I think that will change the end product greatly.

I call myself a crochet fashion designer. I think I can call myself that because that is what I do with the majority of my time. If I am not crocheting, sketching, swatching and surfing the web for inspiration, I am thinking about crochet design. While most people are up all night worrying about their finances (I admit I do that sometimes), I am losing sleep over what stitch pattern I am going ...
