It was in 2008 and I was going to help welcome into the world my 1st great niece, Miss Mady. I wanted her to have something special for Christmas, but I couldn't find anything I liked. So, time for Great Aunt Paula to get working. (Now I am wondering why the date on the pattern is 2011 . . . guess I updated it somewhere . . wish I had fixed the materials so it read "crochet hook" instead of "crochet hoop.")
I made her two variations of this pattern. One in solid red, white and green and the second one in a variegated red, white and green. I was AMAZED at the different looks the different yarns achieved.
Now, I have made it for my 2nd great niece, Elizabeth, who will be celebrating her first Christmas this year, 2012
So, be brave, little crocheter. Experiment with your yarn choice and color combinations . . you will come up with a unique sweater for that unique baby.
I have shown three variations of this pattern. One is made with Vanna's Choice yarn , one is made with Bernat Handicrafter "Holiday Twists and the last is made with Red Heart Shimmer. And, yes, in person it does shimmer and glimmer.
Whatever size yarn you use, make sure you have a hook that is appropriate. This pattern includes a chart for making sizes from newborn to 4T.
No gauge needed. The pattern is written to use a size chart included with the pattern.
