Pattern Description:

Tabula Rasa is a crocheted hat with a worsted weight outer layer and an optional dk weight lining. The inner layer is worked in the same manner as the outer hat to create a thin, non-bulky lining. The ear flaps are created by shaping the body of the hat. The hat can be completed in an evening or two, making it perfect for last minute gifts. The pattern is appropriate for the adventurous beginner, and it comes in 4 sizes, ranging from baby to adult large.

Because the pattern is so simple, there are numerous ways to customize the hat. The outer hat would look fabulous in a handpainted, self-striping, or handspun yarn. Work it in stripes, or embellish with needle felt or embroider a design onto a solid outer hat. Add a crochet flower, pompoms, tassels, or ties made from a crochet chain or purchased cord or ribbon.
