Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Stitches used include - ch, sl st, sc, hdc, fphdc, bphdc (post sts are for ribbed band).

Pattern Description:

This simple crocheted beret is worked mostly using single crochet. The little pointed "nub" at the top of the hat may be easily omitted if it isn't your style.

Design features full-fitting beret style top which is pleated around the ribbed band. Hat may be embellished as shown with a pretty ribbon or crocheted i-cord which is threaded through the pleats near the brim.

Pattern is written in standard American terms.


6 sc & 6 rows = 1" on rnds of main hat
4 sts = 1" on rnds of ribbed hat band

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 0-3 mos, 3-6 mos, 6-12 mos, 1-3 years, 4-10 years, pre-teen/teen and adult


  • Crocheted using fingering or sport weight yarn and crochet hook size f (3.75 mm) or similar.

  • Embellish the hat with a ribbon or crocheted i-cord.
